Tiffin Loop – the re‍usable system for food to-go without plastic and waste production

By creating Tiffin Loop, we have developed a reusable system that is able to avoid waste caused by take-away products in the long term and to protect the environment. We have already gained nationwide supporters for Tiffin Loop. Those who pick up their food at the participating restaurants can scan themselves with the Tiffin Loop app or the Tiffin Card, enjoy their meal and return the Tiffin completely free of charge.

Our system: uncomplicated, fast, environmentally friendly

Since we want to make it as easy as possible for our customers to participate, we have developed the Tiffin Loop app, a system that only requires a one-time registration via app. That’s all you need to use Tiffin Loop. If you don’t want to download the app, you can buy a Tiffin Card for 20 Euros at all participating restaurants, which allows you to borrow a Tiffin for free. This is a simple and uncomplicated way to avoid plastic waste and protect the environment.

The idea behind Tiffin Loop

“Just taste – no waste” – The idea behind Tiffin Loop started at the Berlin-based company ECO Brotbox GmbH. The company designs sustainable stainless-steel products and their experience has shown that many customers have health concerns about plastic containers. With this realization and the conviction to do something about plastic waste, the idea for Tiffin Loop was born.

After an initial test phase five years ago, the product was revised and optimized so that a pilot phase with 20 participating restaurants in Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne and Stralsund could be launched in summer 2020. The city Bedburg served as a pioneer partner in supporting its restaurants in implementing the loop.

Restaurants are just the beginning

Since the pilot phase, the focus has been on restaurant operators in various cities, but the Tiffin Loop concept has also convinced three canteens and one entire city. However, this is just the beginning, as the system can also be implemented in companies and municipalities. “Our goal is to reduce take-away waste in Germany in the long term and contribute to protecting the environment,” says Mustafa Demirtas.
