March 2021
When we came up with the idea of Tiffin Loop, it was clear to us from the start that we had to change something. The plastic waste on the North Sea beach, overflowing bins on our doorstep and huge amounts of food in plastic packaging: All this motivated us to take steps to reduce this waste. As the kebab in aluminum foil or the burger in the Styrofoam box show, the food industry especially has room left for improvement in regard to environmentally conscious practices. Although take-aways have become an integral part of our everyday life, the need for new sustainable packaging alternatives is still in demand. For this reason, we have developed the Tiffin Boxes, which are made of high-quality stainless steel. They are plastic-free, reusable and fully recyclable.
Stainless steel: The only consistent alternative to plastic packaging
Tiffin Loop is the only plastic-free take-away solution in Germany. The idea behind it comes from founder Mustafa, who was inspired by the Indian Tiffin Boxes, which are traditionally used for lunch and can be reused afterwards. We understand the cycle of our Tiffin boxes as a loop, which can be used by many different people in the long term. A reusable plastic solution was out of the question for us from the beginning, as it does not solve the real problem: The environmental pollution caused by plastic. Therefore, we work every day to ensure that plastic-free alternatives like the Tiffin Box continue to establish themselves in society and in consumer behaviors.
The Tiffin Box can be reused more than 3,000 times
Our Tiffin Box, type DIN 18/8, consists of 74 percent steel, 18 percent chrome and eight percent nickel. Even though a small amount of CO² is emitted during its production, the box is considered CO²-neutral after just six loops. Unlike conventional plastic packaging, the robust and easy to clean container can be reused more than 3,000 times. It’s a win-win situation for caterers and consumers: plastic waste and cost for disposable packaging are saved. Moreover, Tiffin Boxes are not only nice to look at, but also food-safe, so there are no odors or taste deviations. In addition, the boxes can be completely recycled if they should no longer be used at some point. Another advantage of the material: while the quality of plastic diminishes when recycled, stainless steel can be recycled and reused completely. The Corona pandemic in particular has shown that food to go is becoming more and more a part of our everyday lives. Let’s enjoy take-away together without creating waste in the future!
